POSITION DESCRIPTION:
2026 Arts Angle Newsroom
Team Member
Reporters and critics make up the Arts Angle Newsroom Team during the newsroom's inaugural term, January through May 2026. These Newsroom Team members cover local arts and creativity through articles and reviews. (Peer Newsroom Editorial Team members and adult mentors support the Newsroom Team in producing these pieces.)

Who: Team members must be 14 to 18 years of age and high school students in the Greater Louisville public or private school or be home-schooled. Applicants must submit the linked form below and complete the application.
When and Where: January – May 2026. The Arts Angle Newsroom meets Mondays, 4 to 6 p.m., and Saturdays, noon to 2 p.m., at Francis Parker School of Louisville, 233 W. Broadway, Louisville, KY. (See the full schedule here.) Team members are not required to attend all sessions. However, there are attendance requirements. (See Expectations.)

Session Times:

Sunday, Jan. 10, Orientation: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Jan. 17 through May 16: Saturdays: noon to 2 p.m., and Mondays: 4 to 6 p.m.

Note: We do not meet on Monday, Jan. 19 (Martin Luther King Jr. Day) or Saturday, May 2 (Derby Day).

Participation Awards: Arts Angle Newsroom Team members earn awards of up to $25 for each published piece selected and edited by the Arts Angle Editorial Team members. Awards are based on the following:

Communication with your editor.

Respect for editors during edits and for other team members.

Appropriate reporting for the piece as planned. This can include interviewing important sources and/or attending a specific arts event.

Meeting deadlines.
Expectations: Arts Angle Newsroom Team members commit to being reliable teammates to their peers and take part in Arts Angle’s mission to prepare youth from diverse backgrounds for success by providing them with access to the arts and empowering them to use their voices to create arts journalism that engages the community. This commitment means Arts Angle Newsroom Team members:

Participate in the Pitch Meetings (see calendar) and other editorial processes. This includes responding to requests for writers.

Be active in the email primary group.

Contribute to discussions with occasional guest speakers (artists, writers, journalists, etc.)

Commit to writing at least two articles for the Arts Angle website during the January-May 2026 term.

Communicate promptly with the Arts Angle Editorial Team members and mentors.

Show up! Attend Newsroom meetings.

Be yourself. Engage. Talk. Discuss. Respond. Share your opinions!

Attendance:

The Saturday, Jan. 10, Newsroom Orientation (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) is mandatory. (Lunch is included.)

Attending at least 12 Newsroom sessions throughout the term is mandatory.

Attending at least six Newsroom Pitch Meetings throughout the term is mandatory. (The term includes eight Pitch Meetings. All are held on Saturdays.)
