Screams echo in the darkness as a chill breezes and fog fills the Brandenburg air. A sudden movement from the shadows is enough to send you running. Every corner holds the possibility of a jumpscare. You never know what’s waiting for you next.

For thrill seekers looking for more than the usual Halloween festivities, Field of Screams, which opened on Oct. 18 and closes Halloween night, offers haunting attractions and unexpected jumpscares, and since 2002, has featured different corn maze configurations each year. Field of Screams makes adrenaline junkies like me want to experience it again and again.
Multiple attractions in one place
Open Friday and Saturday each week, Field of Screams tests visitors' nerves through four attractions that start after dark: the Haunted Hay Ride, the Barn, the Corn Maze, and the Forbidden Forest. Each attraction offers a different experience filled with eerie surroundings and frightening scare actors. With screaming visitors, music, and chainsaws roaring in the background, there is never a quiet or dull moment.

Realistic costumes and sets equal terrifying encounters
During my experience, visitors described the attractions as amazing, particularly because the actors looked so realistic: “One of the best things about Field of Screams is the realistic makeup and costumes worn by the actors,” said Vita Coker, one of Field of Screams’ many visitors.
The actors' detailed special-effects makeup and devotion to the characters made frightening scenes more convincing and immersed me in the experience. Actors are sure to get the adrenaline running whether portraying a clown running through the cornfield all the way out to the asylum around the corner or a serial killer jumping out of the walls.

The sets also played an important role in setting the atmosphere. Each one had its own unique path, props and details, including lights, sound and visuals. Some sets might have strong strobe lights, some might be filled with fog, and others might blast music and eerie sound effects. It all helped build an immersive experience and makes the attractions feel unique, rather than like visitors are simply walking through another Halloween event.
The combination of sets and actors' costumes, makeup, and acting made the experience convincing. The decorations and surroundings helped establish the mood, while the actors added suspense and surprises.
For someone visiting a haunted attraction for the first time, these details can make Field of Screams an exciting and satisfying Halloween destination.

Can Field of Scream be predictable?
Although my first time visiting Field of Screams was exciting, my second and third visits were a different story. In late September 2025, I went with my family for the first time, and this year I went twice: once in early October and again later in the month. Over these two years, ticket prices stayed between $15 and $40 (cash only), depending on which attraction or combination of attractions visitors chose.
During my first visit, I knew little of what to expect. Every dark corner held a possible scare, and the uncertainty made the experience exciting. I found adrenaline coursing through my veins, and I reacted strongly to actors’ unexpected appearances. Although I constantly wondered what would happen next, I felt safe and comfortable knowing actors weren’t allowed to touch visitors. I deeply appreciated this rule, especially as I’d never been to a haunted house. Even when I came face to face with a chainsaw-wielding Michael Myers, I never worried about my safety.

By my second visit early this month, my uncertainty diminished, but I still couldn’t know what they might’ve changed or what the sets were like. I was going in a little blind. I knew what to expect on the Haunted Hayride, the path in the Cornmaze, the Forbidden Forest, and the setup of the Barn. The familiarity made the experience a little less intimidating, but there were still enough surprises to keep me entertained.
My third visit last week was different. I had gone through the attractions this season and could remember and identify when and where some actors might jump out. Though some had moved locations and sets were in a different order, it was still easy to anticipate.

How Field of Screams delivers
The attractions and the experience, nonetheless, delivered excitement. But there was one big difference. The first time I went to the Field of Screams, my focus was surviving the scares and getting through the paths. By the third, I found myself paying more attention to the people I was with instead of constantly watching for the next surprise.
Next year, I plan to go back. Although going multiple times saps the startling novelty, the laughter and memories made with friends and family is worth it.
