Arts Angle Vantage takes teens to the extravagant production of the national touring production of “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” with free tickets to the Tues., Feb. 18 performance, part of PNC Broadway in Louisville’s premiere at The Kentucky Center for the Arts.

Participants get to see the musical on opening night and review the performance, all supported by a workshop with sessions that cover
• American musical theater history
• writing a review (including talking about theater and looking at structure in existing reviews)
• Aspects of direction, choreography, production: costumes, sets. lighting, sound, etc.
• Getting to know your peers!
This musical, inspired by the 2001 Baz Luhrmann film is a jukebox musical with a book by John Logan, tells the story of Christian, a young composer from Lima, Ohio, who travels to Paris during the Belle Epoque at the turn of the 20th century. He falls in love with Satine, an actress and star of the cabaret club called the Moulin Rouge in the city’s Montmartre quarter.
The jukebox musical features arrangements that blend a multitude of chart-topping hits from a range of artists including Beck, "Where It's At"; Beyoncé, “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)”; David Bowie, "Let's Dance" and "Heroes"; Madonna, "Material Girl"; Outkast, "So Fresh, So Clean"; Pink, "Raise Your Glass"; The Rolling Stones, "Gimme Shelter"; and Whitney Houston, "I Wanna Dance with Somebody."
“Moulin Rouge! The Musical” opened on Broadway in July 2019 and went on to win 10 Tony Awards in the musical category, including Best Musical, Best Direction and Best Choreography. It also won for best scenic, costume, lighting and sound design.
“Moulin Rouge! The Musical” runs at the Kentucky Center for the Arts from Feb. 18 through March 2.

CONTENT & LOGISTICS
• Pre-performance sessions cover:
- “Moulin Rouge! The Musical,” musical theater history, musicals adapted from films, jukebox musicals, structure of and issues to consider when writing reviews, etc.
- Sessions offer participants time to discuss theater, writing and viewpoints — and opportunities to make friends.
• A post-performance session includes discussions and participants sharing initial draft sentences and/or paragraphs as part of the writing process.
• Articles will appear online in a partner publication, provided participants complete the requirements.
• Each spot comes with a ticket for the critic and their/her/his accompanying adult.
ABOUT US: Our FREE program for young writers has presented opportunities to teens to see and write about many productions including "Hamilton," "Mean Girls" and "Hadestown." We strive to prepare youth from diverse backgrounds for success by providing access to the arts and empowering them to use their voices to create arts journalism that reaches a wider public.
