April 17: Applications open for 2026-27 Arts Angle Newsroom

Arts Angle, the Louisville organization committed to elevating youth voices, announces applications are open for the the 2026-27 Arts Angle Newsroom starting Friday, April 17, The newsroom — free for all participants — begins in August and meets through May.
This opportunity is open to young people 14 to 18 enrolled in school (public, private or homeschooled) from the Greater Louisville area.

PARTICIPANT BENEFITS
Through this program, those ages 14 to 18 enrolled in high school (public, private or homeschooled) can apply and
develop your voice and skills as a writer and reporting in other media (photography, audio, and video)
gain access to the arts whether on stage through complimentary tickets or behind-the-scenes to witness the process of artmaking ;
report on these through articles and reviews;
receive participation awards for their work (see position descriptions for details);
have their work published as part of the youth-driven Arts Angle Newsroom
and meet like-minded peers and gain a sense of belonging to the larger metropolitan Louisville community.
APPLICATION
OUR HISTORY
The Arts Angle launched in 2018 as a pilot project and has since served nearly 70 young people from high schools in the Kentucky counties of Bullitt, Jefferson, Meade and Shelby, and Clark and Floyd counties in Indiana. Participants have reviewed and reported on the arts and creative events and had their work published on our website and with local publications, including the Courier Journal, LEO Weekly, and high school media.

Alumni have gone on to study at Centre College; Georgetown University; Indiana University Southeast; University of California, Berkeley; University of Louisville; University of Kentucky; Washington University in St. Louis; and Western Kentucky University.
They also have acquired internships at places that include Disney College Program, LEO Weekly, Louisville Public Media, and WDRB-TV.
CALENDAR

The Arts Angle Newsroom meets Mondays, 4 to 6 p.m. and Saturdays, noon to 2 p.m., at Francis Parker School of Louisville, 233 W. Broadway, Louisville, Kentucky.
EXPECTATIONS
Arts Angle Newsroom Team members commit to being reliable teammates and take part in sessions and supporting their peers. This commitment means Arts Angle Newsroom Team members:
Participate in the Pitch Meetings and other editorial processes. This includes responding to requests from writers.
Communicate promptly with the Arts Angle Editorial Team members, editors and mentors.
Be active in the primary communication channels (email, text, etc.)
Contribute to discussions with occasional guest speakers (artists, writers, journalists, etc.)
Commit to writing at least two articles for the Arts Angle website during the the fall and spring terms.
Show up! Attend Newsroom meetings. At least three each month.
Be yourself. Engage. Talk. Discuss. Respond. Share your opinions!
